Portrait of Shomen Dey

Shomen Dey · Founder & Lead Photographer

About

I make pictures that ask to be kept.

I'm Shomen — a wedding photographer based in Chittagong, Bangladesh, working across the country and beyond. For over four years I've followed couples through the hours of their wedding day with the same patience a portrait painter brings to a single face.

My work lives somewhere between editorial and documentary: composed when composition serves the moment, invisible when it does not. I'm drawn to the quiet things — a held breath before the vows, a parent's hand on a shoulder, the way light falls through a doorway at the exact right hour.

I take on a deliberately small calendar each year. It is the only way I know to make work that still feels like a love letter, not a deliverable.

Philosophy

Three quiet rules.

  1. I.

    Light over everything

Available light, found light, the kind that flatters a face without performing. Flash only when it must.

  2. II.

    Patience over coverage

I'd rather miss ten frames than rush the one that matters. Stillness is a creative decision.

  3. III.

    Honesty over perfection

A laugh caught mid-tear. A misplaced curl. The picture that survives the decade is almost never the perfect one.
